5 February, Dubai, UAE 2019: Your future is full of happiness… and free dumplings! At least, that's what Deliveroo, the leading food delivery service in the UAE - is predicting this month. In celebration of Chinese New Year, Deliveroo is giving customers ordering their favourite Chinese dishes from Royal China a free fortune cookie with their order.
The cookies will be given with all orders placed through Royal China on Chinese New Year - 5th February - with the aim of bringing a smile, and a nod towards the future to Deliveroo customers. For some customers, the fortune will be even greater - as a handful of cookies also contain the greatest gift of all - free food!
Fun food facts about Chinese New Year:
- Chinese New Year is also known as the Spring Festival. This is because people welcome spring and what it brings along: planting and harvesting, new beginnings and fresh starts.
- The most common Chinese New Year foods includes dumplings, fish, spring rolls, and nian gao (also known as New Year rice cake). According to Deliveroo's data, dumplings are the most popular Chinese dish in Dubai right now.
- Turnip Cake 萝卜糕 (luó bo gāo) is a dessert commonly eaten during Chinese New Year. They also go by radish, carrot or daikon cake. The main ingredient is shredded Chinese "radish" (菜头—cài tóu) has a similar pronunciation as "good luck and fortune" (好彩头). The shreds are added to rice flour and other flavoring ingredients.
